Social media posts about a possible protest today

Dear Parent/ carer

Social media posts about a possible protest today.

A number of our families have contacted us after being told that there could be a ‘protest’ outside the school later today.

The reasons for the protest are confusing and we are doing our best to try and clarify them as we are always sensitive to the views of our families.

The protest seems to be in aid of an attempt to gain support to have the current Deputy Headteacher, Mr DeSouza, made the Headteacher, someone who, as most of you will know from my last letter, is actually leaving us at the end of March for a new job.

In recent weeks the Headteacher, Matt Clifford, also announced that he had decided to leave in July to take on a headship of a bigger school, as part of his career progression.

Mr DeSouza resigned in the Autumn term due to a fantastic opportunity to work with a group of international schools as a Headteacher. We are absolutely delighted for him, and I can tell you that he is very excited about this new opportunity. He has confirmed he is leaving.

We have heard that some people may plan to film and live stream the protest if it goes ahead. Can I please remind everyone that it is offence to film children in this way without a parent’s permission, as we would not want anyone to get into trouble. Knowing our families, I am sure you will all be sensible.

To cover the role of Headteacher, while the recruitment process takes place, we announced the appointment of a very experienced interim Head of school. You will have the chance to meet and get to know her during the Summer term.

As we  emerge from the pandemic and Matt and Lawrence leave us, I hope you will agree with me that now is the time for everyone to pull together to ensure Kingfisher has a very bright and successful future moving forward.

We want parents that are passionate about their children’s education to be engaged with us and work with us to make things better. So let’s use this energy in a positive way to ensure the very best for our children.

We are always stronger and better together.
