A Strong Start to School

In our Nursery and Reception classes, we provide a strong and caring start to school. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. This supports children’s development across all areas of learning. Our priority is that children feel safe, happy and ready to learn. We place a strong focus on language, early reading and building positive relationships. We are proud to work with families from many different backgrounds and value the languages and cultures they bring to our school and wider community.

How Children Learn

Children learn through a balance of:

  • teaching led by adults
  • carefully planned play
  • time to explore and try new things

Our classrooms are calm, welcoming and well organised. Children are encouraged to talk, ask questions and become more independent.

A Focus on Language and Early Reading

Developing language is a key part of our work.

Adults talk with children throughout the day, model clear language and encourage conversation.

Children begin learning phonics early, helping them recognise sounds and start reading with confidence.

Learning Inside and Outside

Children learn both indoors and outdoors every day.

Outdoor learning supports physical development, confidence and curiosity. It also gives children space to explore and work with others.

Working With Parents

We believe children do best when schools and families work together.

We keep parents informed and offer simple guidance so you can support your child’s learning at home.

Our Approach to Teaching

We are committed to helping every child succeed.

Our teaching is clear, structured and carefully planned so that children build knowledge and skills step by step.

We have high expectations for all pupils and support them to do their best.

We are proud to work with families from many different backgrounds and value the languages and cultures they bring to our school.

Clear and Structured Lessons

Lessons are calm, focused and well organised.

Teachers explain new learning clearly and check understanding before moving on.

Children are given time to practise and use what they have learned.

A Strong Focus on Reading

Reading is at the heart of our curriculum.

Children learn to read through a structured phonics programme in the early years and Key Stage 1.

We also encourage a love of reading through stories, class books and a wide range of texts.

Supporting All Learners

We support every child to succeed.

Teachers adapt their teaching to meet different needs by:

  • giving extra help where needed
  • providing challenge for deeper thinking
  • building confidence and independence

Positive Classrooms

We create calm and respectful classrooms.

Clear routines help children feel safe and know what to expect. This helps them focus and learn well.

Checking Progress

Teachers regularly check how well children understand their learning.

This helps us support each child and plan the next steps.
