A Happy and Caring Start
Starting Nursery
Starting Nursery is an important moment for children and families.
Our Nursery team helps children settle in gently so they feel comfortable and confident. We build strong relationships with parents so that children feel supported from the very beginning.
Children make friends, explore new activities and begin to enjoy being part of a school community.
What children learn in Nursery
In Nursery, children begin developing the skills they need for future learning.
Through play and daily activities, children learn how to:
• communicate and use language
• listen and follow simple instructions
• play and share with other children
• explore, create and be curious
• develop early number awareness
• grow in confidence and independence
These early experiences help children feel ready for Reception.
Learning inside and outside
Nursery children learn both inside the classroom and outside.
Nursery and Reception share a dedicated play area that is separate from the rest of the school. This helps younger children feel safe and secure.
Children spend time outside every day. Outdoor play helps develop confidence, physical skills and curiosity.
There are many areas for children to explore, including a mud kitchen, role play areas and creative spaces.
What our parents say
Many parents tell us how happy their children are in Nursery. Hearing from other families can help parents understand what the school is like.

Read our Nursery brochureNursery funding and eligibility
We offer government-funded childcare during term time (38 weeks a year), Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.10pm.
We provide Nursery places for children aged 3 to 4, with full-time, part-time and flexible options available.
Some families may be able to “stretch” their funded hours across more weeks. Please speak to our Nursery team for more information.
How many hours can I get?
All families (3–4 year olds)
All children aged 3 and 4 are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare each week, from the term after their third birthday.
Working families
Many working families are eligible for 30 hours of free childcare each week. To access this, you will need to apply for a government childcare code and reconfirm it every 3 months.
From September 2025, some working families may also be eligible for funded childcare from an earlier age.
