Year 4 make their own Anglo Saxon stew

Last term, our year 4 children were learning about the Anglo Saxons.

Through their research, they found out that the less wealthy Anglo Saxons would eat vegetables as they could not afford meat.

Before breaking up for the Easter holidays, children had a go at making a Saxon stew by chopping up vegetables such as leeks, parsnips, and beans. They named their Saxon Stew ‘Pottage” and even made a recipe for it.

The Anglo-Saxons were a cultural group that inhabited England from around AD410 to 1066. They were a mix of tribes from Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
